I don't know about you, but I'm feeling...
HA! You thought I was going to say 22, right? Just like the Taylor Swift song, eh? Well, you're WRONG!
What I was
going to say (and I apologize for the outburst) was that I don't know about you, but I'm feeling like I want a nice, refreshing summer drink without all of the calories.
Summer is meant to be a time of relaxation. It should be a time filled with joy as boundless as the ocean and with opportunities as numerous as the sand (too much?). Therefore, you should treat yourself a little. While that is all fine and dandy, there are some of us who still try to make wise choices when it comes to what we eat and drink and unfortunately, the word "tasty" is not synonymous with the word "healthy" most of the time.
While messing around with some raw ice cream (or sorbet, or whatever you want to call it), I thought I would dab a bit into some Sprite that I had on hand. When I took that first sip, I was hooked. It tasted just like that punch that is served at a party (BUT with somewhat healthier ingredients). Thus, I have developed this recipe for a low calorie version of the drink that everyone knows and loves. Enjoy:
To make the raw ice cream/sorbet part of the punch, you will need:
Frozen bananas
Frozen strawberries (1 banana to every handful of strawberries)
Milk
Vanilla extract
Take the frozen banana(s) and strawberries and blend them in a food processor. Once they have become mostly combined, add in a splash of milk and vanilla. I didn't use exact measurements when making this, but if I did, I would say add about 2 tablespoons of milk for every banana and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Basically, you are making a fruit smoothie. Once this has been blended, stick it in the freezer for a while until it becomes almost icy.
Once the ice cream/sorbet is chilled, just take a scoop of it, pop it into a glass, and pour some Diet Sprite/Sierra Mist/other Lemon Lime Soda on top.
Now, doesn't that sound refreshing? While this is not totally "healthy," (being that Diet Soda is not the best thing in the world for you) it does have fewer calories and no added sugar, which is a win in my book!
I hope that this inspires to make up your own summer drink recipes! If you have any, post them in the comments.
Adios, Amigos!
